Digital Fluroscopy

A fluoroscopy is an examination of the tissues and deep structures of the body using X-ray imaging devices. One of these devices projects radiographic (X-ray) images in a movie-like sequence onto a screen monitor. During a fluoroscopy, you may be asked to swallow a radioactive liquid called a barium.  We use digital fluoroscopy for the following:

  • all barium studies
  • hysterosalpingograms
  • herniograms
  • plain films
  • musculoskeletal

For plain films, appointments can be offered as early as the day of referral. For other procedures, depending on the preparation and speciality, an appointment will be offered within the next 5 days. GP's can now refer directly for MRI, CT (both of which will be carried out at our sister hospital in Ashtead) and Ultrasound. Appointments are normally offered within 2-4 days and reported back to the GP within 48 hours.

The Imaging Centre is open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm; we can offer appointments at short notice, sometimes on the same day depending on the complexity of the scan required.  We also offer evening and some weekend MRI appointments.

All examinations are reported by a Consultant Radiologist and results are sent to the referring Clinician within three working days.  Urgent results can be telephoned or faxed directly, by arrangement, within 24 hours.

Please call the Imaging Unit on 01372 221 460 for further information or to make an appointment.
