Dr Ivanov qualified as a doctor in Minsk, Belarus in 1996 and was awarded a PhD in Haematology/Biochemistry (St Petersburg, Russia) for research into the role of calprotectin (one of the proteins in white cells) in haematological conditions. In 1997 he was awarded the Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellowship to undertake research at the Leucocyte Adhesion Laboratory, Imperial Cancer Research Fund, London. He continued his medical career in Medicine/Haematology and has undergone training in major UK cancer centres, such as the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton; Christie Hospital, Manchester; University Hospital of Wales and Velindre Hospital, Cardiff. He has completed specialist training in Haematology at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and has subsequently been appointed as a Consultant Haematologist at Southend University Hospital. He joined Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, which remains his main NHS base, in 2011. Dr Ivanov's sub-speciality areas include lymphoma and coagulation disorders, however, as a District General Hospital Haematologist he regularly sees patients a wide variety of blood disorders.
