Hospital surgeon performs 50th ConforMIS knee replacement

Mr Andrew Cobb, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ashtead Hospital, performed his 50th ConforMIS total knee replacement yesterday at the hospital.

Mr Cobb did his first ConforMIS case in 2014 and is only the 7th surgeon to perform his 50th procedure highlighting his experience using ConforMIS.  He continues to grow his ConforMIS practice as word of mouth spreads and patients now travel from outside of the local area to see him.

Mr Cobb is the highest volume surgeon in South London and the only user of ConforMIS within Ashtead. He is now involved in training new surgeons from around the world including as far away as Hong Kong.

There are many factors that govern the success of a knee replacement procedure including the design of the implant. Traditional technology offers a limited range of shapes and sizes so that surgeons often have to compromise on implant fit, rotation and alignment.

To achieve a perfect fit requires that the implant is personalized specifically for your knee.   ConforMIS use data collected from a CT scan of the knee and manufacture a bespoke knee implant to exactly match the anatomy. To enable the surgeon to place the implant precisely a 3-D printed, single-use patient specific instrument set is also manufactured.

Clinical studies have shown there is a significantly higher patient satisfaction at one year post-operation.
