Rheumatology

Rheumatology is the study of arthritis and other rheumatic disorders of the joints, muscles and ligaments. Early diagnosis and treatment can greatly improve the outcome of many rheumatology complaints. For example, in some chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout and osteoporosis, treatment can bring these diseases completely under control.

Ashtead Hospital offers easy access to a team of experienced rheumatology consultants who care for all aspects of rheumatology including inflammatory rheumatic disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), osteoarthritis, crystal arthritis (gout), osteoporosis and connective tissue disorders. They can often differentiate rheumatic conditions based on your history and a clinical examination alone, although sometimes another diagnostic test is required. DEXA scanning is used in the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis, Ashtead Hospital are delighted to be able to offer a dedicated Osteoporosis Assessment Service, run by Consultant Rheumatolgist, Dr Darlington.

They work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure all your healthcare needs can be addressed in one hospital setting from investigation to management. We offer diagnostic testing, exercise and dietary advice, medications, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, podiatry and surgery if required for our rheumatology patients.
